Year 2407 post-Awakening. Earth remains largely uninhabitable. Human activity is confined to controlled Eurasian enclaves—closed systems that sustain life while relying on technologies only partially understood. From these enclaves, we launched expedition EX2407pD-QW.
Our objective was to trace the final transmission of expedition EX2101pD-WG, lost approximately three centuries ago. The signal persists, originating from the coordinates of former New York.
Initial mapping confirms a critical constraint: global habitability has collapsed into a single hemisphere. However, navigation toward the target cannot be resolved through conventional geography. Movement must be guided by fragmented Ilghal signals—semiotic structures that function as active maps. Terrain is not stable. Interpretation determines trajectory.
The destination presents a layered anomaly. Signal readings do not converge on a single point but on a vertically stratified structure beneath the surface. Designation: Deep City.
Key observation: the signal reacts to measurement. Increased precision does not refine the data—it alters it. This behavior suggests a system capable of feedback, adaptation, or interference with observation itself.
This challenges the prevailing assumption of Deep City as a static underground location. Current working hypothesis: it may constitute a node within a larger, possibly planetary-scale network embedded beneath Earth’s surface.
